Right now I’m printing out my resume to slip under the doors of the two cafés that are opening down the block from me. One is a coffee shop, the other a vegetarian restaurant. I’m figuring that if I have to work in food service for the next few months, at least I can do it within walking distance of my home. I was hoping to make the MTA obsolete in my life by this Spring anyway — which reminds me, I have to get my hands on a bicycle. But in the meantime, what kind of a cover letter does one write for a food service job? (My mother scoffs at the fact that I even have to submit a resume, so I won’t ask her.)
Design-related freelance gigs are slowly trickling in, again scratching at my doubts about finally committing to graduate school in writing. I like this stuff. I spent a large portion of last night tweaking my stylesheets and learning their functionality. (The site still isn’t perfect — anyone want to help me out with positioning issues? I want to eliminate tables for good.) But I also love writing, and because I have a harder time committing to it — because it is harder — I feel like it’s all the more important that I do it. The month or so countdown ’till I receive my acceptance (or rejection) letters begins.
I finally received my Federal tax refund, which was direct-deposited into my bank account yesterday. This is a good thing, because I was overdrawn by $1.98 and the bank, damn them, charged me $30 for it. For a paltry $1.98. This on top of the monthly fees they like to pile on because I’m not keeping a grand sum in my non-interest-bearing ghetto checking account. Thanks Fleet.
With my tax refund, I will now purchase a bucket so that I may mop my floor.
