Media storage — what are your opinions?

I’m currently considering moving all of my discs (about 400) out of their jewel cases and into portable nylon disc sleeves. Part of me shudders at the thought of my discs living in little nylon pods for the rest of their lives, but the more pragmatic part of me understands that there just isn’t enough room here for thirteen shelves worth of jewel cases.

Am I insane, or should I just bite the bullet and get me a couple of those nylon cases? Help!
